CNN on Om Shanti Om [Acting & Performing]

CNN documentary on Om Shanti Om shooting.

SRK's tardiness is world famous.

0:50
Like I said this is easy shooting. It's our own film. We'll finish today. Our logic is If we don't we will do it tomorrow.

He sure is taking it easy but the staff seem a bit impatient.

Farah

Still shooting the "Water" and today Shah Rukh will be almost nude. The shirt is gonna go off today. If I get desperate tomorrow, the pants will go off too.

I love her jokes.

3:07
After 10 buckets of water, it wrapped.
It's not important if I'm happy. People have to be happy. I'm always happy.

4:50 Press conference in London
I'm not a fool so think that when somebody sees the typical bollywood film the first reaction is "Oh God, It's too long! Songs? You guys do songs? It's so kitsch!" We know you find our cinema a little different. But we are here to tell you please love the difference.
6:53 London premier
So this is what we live for. And this is what makes me want to make more films and tell stories. I'll go back home and start the film all over again. And make sure all these people are happy. Because they love me so much.

7:14
We are chosen by the audience you work for. You are employed by them. They hire you and fire you. So I hope my employers will be happy with me for a long long time.

Grungy Look on SRK [Acting & Performing]

Scruffy, grungy look of recent SRK with hair extension and stubble.

He looks hot .....in a way...?

still2.jpg

Well... I'd say It's gonna rock on screen for sure.

Anyway, he is quite irritated and I don't blame him.

"It's a real problem maintaining such strings of hairs attached. I haven't shaved for so many days. I have huge respect for women, but really want to ask them how they maintain their long hair."

"I wake up in the morning and have to set it. I can't take a proper bath. They had to be washed with care. I am really, really looking forward to the shooting of 'Don 2' to wrap up,"

SRK Hosting Mughal-E-Azam Documentary [Acting & Performing]

mughal-e-azam12963.jpg

SRK is hosting the documentary of the 60's legendary cinema "Mughal-E-Azam". SRK has a lot of memory with his family regarding this grandeur film. The documentary is mainly in Hindi but many actors speak English and it's still enjoyable without understanding the dialogue much. Still you can be grateful for it's such a spectacular and gorgeous film.

SRK'is favorite dialogue from the film. (Credit: Palacerani at shahrukhkhan.org)
"Salim tumhe marne nahin dega aur Anarkali, hum tumhe jeene nahin denge".

These words were uttered by Emperor Akbar to Anarkali, a dancer with whom his son Salim was in love. Akbar imprisons Anarkali and tells her:

"Salim won't let you die and Anarkali, I won't let you live".
My heart smiles because he says this dialogue so joyously.....

SRK on Indian Films [Acting & Performing]

bafta.jpg

Interview at BAFTA (The British Academy of Films and Television Arts) in 2006. SRK talks about how he perceives Hindi Films to Gurinder Chadha, the director of "Bend it Like Beccham".

0:41
I used to be a part of theatre. And one thing we were taught was you never isolate the emotions. So if you are only happy. You don't just be happy. Where other emotions are running parallel to the happiness. Somehow as an actor, you should capture that. I would say Indian films are like that but a little more in your face.

Like a cabaret dancer or the variety show presenter. Where you are supposed to sing and dance and make everyone have an entertaining time. When I was younger and stupider, I used look down upon Indian films. "There's no character!". But it is awfully difficult to really convince yourself to dance around trees and look sort of ...still relevant.

G: You do it awfully well, Shah Rukh, doesn't he? (laugh)

I genuinely believe... I mean I'm not giving the importance to the acting in India. I think there are so many wonderful wonderful actors all around the world But it IS like a workshop for an actor.

To be able to do this, suddenly cry and dance on top of the train then head off toward a bad guy and jump from the building and quickly go to your mom.....whatever.

SRK on Fans [Stardom & Popularity]

It's Sunday today. There must be a lot of people in front of SRK's house. This is regular weekend but there would be more on special occasions like birthday.

Police advices him not to show up and cause the craziness of the crowd but he shows up like this when he is at home.
Bday.jpg

I hove been watching SRK's interview for sometime now and realized, how many times he has to answer the same question again and again. And I admire him for answering with dignity, humility and honesty again and again. The top of the frequently asked question is "Why do you think you are so popular?". The second comes on "Why you don't flirt with actresses?"

It must be unreasonable for them for he is not best looking, best dancer, may not even be a best actor. I don't know why I'm only attracted to him either. He himself wonders.

I know very truly I'm not a genius. I'm very clearly not gifted. And I know that the position I've reached is the position that should be gifted to a genius. It's not deservingly so.

The reason I'm good to fans or I believe in them is because, one I'm employed by them so I'm like "thank you guys. You've been kind to me," So I'm returning that kindness.

And the second way to look at it is "OK, listen I'm really scared, don't go anywhere. I know I don't deserve it but thank you so much so stick on." I'm just being... what do you say I'm being kind to them for my own selfish gains.

But whatever the case, I'm immensely grateful. I think it comes out of gratitude. It doesn't come out of any other reason.

If I see, on weekends, I have hundreds of people outside my house. Today is Sunday a lot of people will come out in the evening. I feel I'm going in to meeting them all. My security with a gun says don't. But I want to meet them. Because I have to thank them.

So I think fans are like how you feel in front of an ocean. You know sometimes when you are so full of yourself, you go down on the beach and stand in front of the sea and realize how insignificant you are.

And all the importance in your house and well up fostered rooms and your Luis Vuittons and your BMWs and you're like "Oh God, I'm so powerful". And you go and stand in front of the sea and you realize you are such an insignificant nobody in the larger scheme of things.

Fans to me are like that. See, when I see them I realize my insignificance without them. I want to go and stand with them and say "OK, I'm insignificant. But thank you for making me so significant, for making me so special.

A R Rahman once said the same thing. When I interviewed him, I asked "Among all those gifts you are given by God, what are you most grateful of?" He said, "The ability to feel that I'm insignificant when I look at the ocean." Great minds think alike.

SRK gets angry [Controversy and Pain]

bel7.jpg

Articles up to now only showed how honest and humble SRK is. How perfectly virtuous he is. But I think he is not a saint. He is an educated decent person who is trying to be as virtuous as possible. I think he has naughty, childish, jealous self and what is great about him is that he notices it.

Following is of 2009 interview where SRK gets mad at what Aamir Khan said about him.

I think he should talk about himself, not about me. I think he should restrict it to praising his film, praising himself and not talking about my PR or my marketing.

What he does I don't question. I think he's wonderful. I've always praised and said that he is really a fantastic actor, he does his job very well, he is conscientious.

I don't think he should get into the territory of what I do. Because he doesn't know me well enough to comment on that. And I don't like it.

He named a dog after me, which is OK. I said OK that's a joke. So , XYZ things, when they say, it's alright. But beyond that, I think he should restrict it to himself.

I also wonder why I play on his mind so much. He should do his job. He is working hard. Time to work hard, continue with what he does and be happy for what God has given him(me). Don't be unhappy for what God has given me. He should enjoy what he has so than not enjoying what others have. I'm not here to taking nonsense from anyone.

In the beginning, he was rather calm. But gradually he gets more and more angry. It's a reasonable anger . And up until here you can even call it decent.

I'm not Billu, and I don't think I need to cut anybody's hair to become famous. I just act to be famous, I just be in a movie to be famous. I walk, and I just breath to be famous. I just have to be, to be famous. I don't need to cut anybody's hair to become famous.

I think this part, his anger carried him away too far. He is also criticizing Armil's PR himself. And his deriding tone of not needing to cut somebody's hair bothers me.

What Aarmir said to make SRK this angry? Wait for the next entry.……<To be continued>

Provoking Aamir <1> [Controversy and Pain]

srkak.jpg

This is to see how Aamir Khan's remarks caused SRK's anger.

*Background Knowledge:
SRK actually doesn't like romantic films.
・He prefers to be recognized in other genre such as action, comedy or social issues
・He recognizes that he became the King of Bollywood because of the romantic films.
・He understands audiences' preference because he'd love to see Sean Connery as 007 knowing he is great actor and capable for any roles.
He has fear of failing in other genre. Like his challenging films such as Asoka, Phil Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, One 2 ka 4 didn't do well at the box office and they were financially saved by the success of romantic Chalte Chalte.
In fact, he does star in varieties of films other than romantic films. Especially when Aamir commented like following, he had succeeded in the series of completely different types of films such as Chak De, OSO, Don.

0:33
I think Shah Rukh works in his style. He likes to do romantic films. ...He likes to do a certain kind of cinema which he does very well. And he stays within the limit of that so he does mostly romantic films.

And he likes to work with certain kind of people. And he is very good at that. I think he keeps audience very happy in that way.

I have totally different way of working. I don't play safe at all. I'm happy to take risks. I go with my instinct. > In fact I feel that cinema is something that story telling. Each time I would like to tell different story. I don't want to tell same story again and again. I want to tell different story each time. It's challenging for me. It's exciting for the audience.

Neither of us is right or wrong. I mean each one has their own way of working, and priorities. Both of us are successful. So I think there is no issue.

In summary, the following were what touched SRK's nerve I assume:

Aamir's prejudice of SRK liking romantic films.
Aamir's prejudice of SRK's mannerism.
Aamir's self-applause of taking risks and succeeding everytime (as the contrast to above).

<Not so pleasant subject but more to come>

Resuming

4436419.bin.jpg

Dear readers,

What happened after the 11th of March devastated us Japanese. As everyone knows, the failure of the nuclear reactors are still threatening not only Japanese but the world. We had been hooked on the news report to see what was happening 24 hours. The horrifying views of once beautiful Tohoku coast wrench my heart. I pray for the victims, their loved ones, survivors, nuclear workers and animals in the region.

I stopped the blog without notice. However, watching the news and stiffening myself does not help. I shall do what I can contribute for the disaster while resuming the normal life. Having the new customs like scheduled blackouts and checking the radio actives in the morning, the normal life is never be the same as before though.

Anyway, I might as well resume this humble blog as a part of my normal life. Thank you for reading.

Ra.One Teaser and Trailer [Acting & Performing]

The first 10 seconds teaser has been out for SRK's VFX film Ra. One.

This is longer version.

I am personally not a great fan of action or VFX films and I get out of breath watching these teasers. Having said that, SRK looks fantastic here and I strongly hope this film will do stupendously well. He is spending his life for this dream project of his. And I also hope this film will release in Japan. We DO need a superhero now.....

In Hindi, they pronounce Ra.One Raavan for they don't distinguish wa and va. Raavan is same as the Mani Ratnam's film and the name of the king of Lanka in Ramayana. So Ra.One is the villein performed by Arjun Rampal and SRK is G.One the hero which is pronounced Jeevan meaning life in Hindi. SRK also said they are from "Random Access No. One" and "Good One". I adore Indians for their talent of artful puns.

By the way, SRK came back to twitter and these promos were released on my birthday!(*^ ・^)ノ⌒

Struggling SRK [Controversy and Pain]

2009 was as if a cursed year for SRK.
SRKinjury.jpg

It started from the spat with Farah. Then he had to remove "Barber" from "Billu Barbar" due to the protest from Hair Stylist's Association. It was a nice little hart warming story but the budget expanded too much so consequently it did not do as successful as it was expected.
Shah-Rukh-Khan_1463444c.jpg

His IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders finished the season with terrible record, and he was detained at an American air port for he was suspected to be a terrorist.

The worst problem was the shoulder injury during the shooting of "Dulha Mil Gaya". He was supposed to do only a cameo for the director whom he feels grateful for helping him during his early career. But the role was eventually expanded and SRK as usual did his best squeezing time from his busy schedule. Then the accident happened and his left shoulder was badly damaged. . He had to go under operation again. It postponed Ra.One schedule as well as the completion of MNIK
I don't want to calculate how much loss it caused him for these two films happened to be two enormous budget home production films. I assume he has been working hard for many stage performances and the TV program like "Zor Ka Jhatka" because he needs to make money.

0:43
I've got hurt. I've been injured. And I was a little depressed because you know when you're injured, and someone like me who loves to be active, moving around, doing work it was very depressing.

Because I kind of got the capacity I'd already started "Khan". So I kind of just about finished it without too much problems. But, yeah last four months I got really depressed because even after finish "Khan", I didn't know what to do I couldn't shoot. My doctor said to wait til Feb before I actively start shooting.

So Insha Allah in the next two days I'm gonna do my final test. I'm feeling good so I think I'm alright and I should start working now.

If it was an ordinary person, he would have wanted to forget about the bitter experiences, but he is no ordinary man.
1:55 You should never forget the failure. If you forget the failure, you should never succeed. So 2009 is the most memorable year for me for being completely screwed up. So I'll make sure I'll never forget 2009 so it never ever happen again to me. I don't like to lose.

The ones that go wrong should be never forgotten. The ones that go right have the life of their own and they should be forgotten they'll take care of themselves. So I think it was the most memorable year for me. I tell everyone that success will never be able to teach you anything.

His resilience and persistence are a part of the reasons which made him King of Bollywood. However, he made us fans worried by working hard around the clock having wounds all over the body. And to me, the fact he often wears shades in public recently shows his emotional vulnerability. He seems to be in need of getting healed in many ways.

I strongly hope the outright success of Ra.One will sweep all the negativity away!
